They formed in 2007 after their first mixtape for the 5ive skateshop in Kempten was surprisingly well received.

The name came about spontaneously when they made their first mixtape for the 5ive skateshop in Kempten in 2007. They were a bit drunk, and the laid-back, non-serious vibe of the evening led to the idea of calling themselves "Drunken Masters" - in reference to the cult film "Drunken Master" (with Jackie Chan), but also as an ironic self-assessment: two guys who have a lot of fun making beats, DJing and partying.The name stuck - and quickly became a brand, because it sums up the mixture of party, chaos and skill quite well.

An important moment in the Drunken Masters' career was their remix of the Major Lazer song Mashup The Dance. Diplo, a founding member of Major Lazer, played their remix on the BBC Radio 1Xtra radio show, exposing them to a large audience.
