Carnival in Düsseldorf: Our tips for 11.11.
The fifth season is in the starting blocks and the Düsseldorf Jeck:innen are eager to bring the Hoppeditz back to life this year. The motto is: "Mer bliewe bunt - ejal wat kütt!". 🦸🏼🎭🍻
The Hoppeditz awakening traditionally takes place on 11.11 on Düsseldorf's Rathausplatz and admission is at 10:30 am. The Comitee Düsseldorfer Carneval leads through a great and varied stage program and after the Hoppeditz has awakened at 11:11 a.m. as usual, the season is really open!
Hoppeditz... wake up!
At 11:11 a.m. on 11.11.2025, the time has come again in front of Düsseldorf's town hall market square: the fictitious jester figure "Hoppeditz" awakens. From an oversized mustard pot, he gives the city leaders a good telling off in a humorous speech. The so-called "Narrenschelte" is a traditional spectacle that puts the city in an exuberant festive mood and carnival fans should definitely not miss it!

Costume tinkering put aside and ears pricked up:
Düsseldorf has a proud carnival tradition in which the "Hoppeditz" plays a special role. This foolish contemporary is symbolically brought to life and ushers in the fifth season. A wake-up call from the old town shouts: "Wake up, you revellers!" - and carnival is already in full swing.
Celebrations are held in costume, whether planned well in advance or spontaneously donned, and with plenty of camels and Altbier. It is practically obligatory to wear a jester's cap and hand out confetti - a carnival without it would be unthinkable here. If you still turn up without a disguise, you can be sure to be quickly put in the right mood by other jesters.
