With works by Franz Schubert, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Philip Glass and The Beatles

A vast panorama of human emotions unfolds in the program of our first chamber concert. Death and the Maiden, Schubert's late masterpiece, is one of the most dramatically gripping works in the Romantic repertoire in its inconsolability. In contrast, Erich Wolfgang Korngold's Second String Quartet, written as the last work before his saving emigration to the USA, combines an almost defiant look back with an energetic step into an uncertain future. The quartet movement Mishima / Closing by Philip Glass, taken from a film score, has a more conciliatory effect. And as if in fast-forward, four songs by the Beatles tell us that not everything in life always goes according to plan.
