100 Jahre Mikis Theodorakis deutsch-deutsche Resonanzen eines politischen Komponisten
In the organizer's words:
Mikis Theodorakis (1925-2021) was much more than a musician - he was a composer, freedom fighter, parliamentarian and symbol of resistance against dictatorship and oppression. His songs shaped generations in Greece and also resonated strongly in Germany - in both East and West.
The two-part series of events commemorates the life and work of this extraordinary artist and invites you to rediscover the political and cultural power of his music.
The Stasi Records Archive is taking part in the series because Theodorakis' life exemplifies how art and political attitudes clash in authoritarian systems - and what effect solidarity, freedom and cultural exchange can have in times of surveillance.
In cooperation with the Center for Modern Greece (CeMoG) at Freie Universität Berlin.
Free admission. Registration is not necessary.
