At the center of the film is Tilda (played by Luna Wedler), a young woman with a great passion for mathematics and swimming - her escape from everyday life. She lives with her little sister Ida and her alcoholic mother in a small town that she would prefer to leave. Tilda has been taking responsibility for the family for years, working at the supermarket checkout and looking after Ida, while at the same time mastering her studies. When the opportunity of a doctoral position in Berlin arises, Tilda is faced with a difficult decision: should she follow her own future or continue to be there for her sister? The relationship between the two sisters is the emotional core of the film - characterized by love, solidarity and a longing for freedom. At the outdoor pool, where Tilda regularly swims her 22 laps, she meets Viktor (Jannis Niewöhner), with whom she shares a common past. The encounter brings with it old wounds and new hope
