Edward Elgar's concert overture In the South takes us on a family vacation to the landscape and atmosphere of the Italian Riviera. He uses musical means to reflect a region in both its vitality and its beauty. Pianist Saskia Giorgini, making her first appearance in Osnabrück, will perform Richard Strauss' Burleske in D minor , a work with virtuoso piano passages and a humorous, almost satirical character. Howard Hanson's Romantic is by a composer who, unlike movie theaters, is rather unknown to local concert halls. The film music genius Jerry Goldsmith was horrified when he had to listen to the music of another composer at the end of the first performance of the science fiction classic "Alien". There is no doubt that this film contributed significantly to the popularity of this blockbuster music.
