Nominated for the Mülheim Children's Play Prize 2026: "Tonight at 03.34 a.m." by Uta Bierbaum

Eddie talks flippantly about his life in the tower block: about Mr. Taniwa, his family and Ommi, who knows that a fireball will hit the ground at 3.34 a.m. today. But nobody cares. There are always bangs in Eddie's life, even in the family. In hospital, it's better to say you've fallen off the swing. But they still get ice cream as a reward. It's heartbreaking how Eddie conjures up a normality that he doesn't have: a safe home full of security. After another escalation of domestic violence, he regrets that the world didn't end. Mr. Taniwa has an idea. Uta Bierbaum knows exactly how to use her language and has mastered the art of making the difficult visible with ease.
