Engelsburg Castle in Erfurt is celebrating its 900th birthday with an indoor festival that has never been seen before.

On November 8, the audience can expect nine live acts and seven DJs on various stages and floors.

International greats such as Gossip and Zoot Woman, national treasures such as Kadavar, Die Liga der gewöhnlichen Gentlemen and Egotronic as well as current festival favorites such as Blond, Leoniden, Zimmer90 and Jeremias played their first shows in Erfurt at the Engelsburg. First shows in a small concert cellar that couldn't hold 200 people. First shows in an event location with history: 900 years of Engelsburg Castle.

But what exactly are we celebrating? Laying of the foundation stone, first mention in an old document, first concert with fiddle & lute in 1125? Dendrochronological studies (i.e. scientists who use scientific equipment to take measurements to find out how old something is) have revealed that the oldest building materials date back to 1125. More specifically, it's an old wooden beam that holds up the ceiling in the restaurant area. Yes, we're making all this fuss about a WOODEN BEAM!!!!!!

Back to culture: Martin Luther was actually a guest at Castel Sant'Angelo, and Crotus Rubeanus and his disciples wrote the Dark Men's Letters here. A few meters away from the place where history was written, acts such as Cari Cari, Dilla, Razz, Kytes, Marlo Grosshardt, Eli Preiss, Salo, Tristan Brusch and DILLA prepare for their shows in the band cellar of Castel Sant'Angelo.

Culture for over 55 years:
In 1968, the doors of the "Engelsburg Student Club" opened for the first time. At that time, it was still self-organized by students and exclusively for students of the medical faculty.
From 1990 onwards, all Erfurt residents were invited to meet in the Engelsburg to enjoy various cultural events. Since 2000, the restaurant and beer garden have also been a regular meeting place for young and old.
After countless concerts, readings, parties, plays, late-night specials, renovations, club foundations and dissolutions, the newly opened Engelsburg cultural center has been one of the most important hubs of Erfurt's concert and nightlife culture since 2017.
