Adventsvesper des Dresdner Kreuzchors mit Vivaldis "Gloria"

Let yourself be enchanted by an over 650-year-old tradition: on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 5:00 pm, the Dresden Kreuzchor invites you to its festive Advent Vespers in the venerable Kreuzkirche. Experience a program that combines the deeply rooted history of this unique series of events with the brilliant music of Antonio Vivaldi.

The weekly vespers in the Kreuzkirche are a living legend. For over six centuries, they have attracted visitors from all over the world without interruption - a unique continuity in the field of church music and liturgical events. Even today, thousands of listeners fill the church to be part of this special atmosphere.

The focus of the evening this time is Antonio Vivaldi's sublime "Gloria" (RV 589). This work is one of Vivaldi's best-known and most popular compositions. He wrote it while working at the Ospedale della Pietà in Venice. The "Gloria" is a festive setting of the Latin hymn of praise and impresses with its lively, optimistic and radiant music.

Experience how Vivaldi divides the work into twelve movements, ranging from joyful, virtuoso choruses to tender, expressive arias. The combination of soloists, choir and orchestra creates an impressive musical variety. The music expresses a deep joy and solemnity that fits perfectly into the Advent season.

The performance will be performed by soprano Gretel Wittenburg and alto Anna-Maria Tietze. The Dresdner Kreuzchor, Vocal Concert Dresden and the Dresdner Barockorchester under the direction of Peter Kopp will perform.
