From December 12, 2025 - January 24, 2026, Galerie Beim Schlump presents works by Hamburg painter Agnia Lauren on the theme: "Beauty will save the world".

In her new paintings, the artist has explored the different meanings of beauty. In the mostly large-format scenes between light and darkness, contradictory forces wrestle with each other. In a great variety of themes and often mysterious: from the apocalyptic horsemen to aliens in front of the burning Notre-Dame Cathedral, from Walpurgis Night to the Magic Flute and unicorn hunters cloaked in animal masks.

"Beauty will save the world", the Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky had Prince Myshkin, the protagonist of his great novel The Idiot, proclaim in 1869. In a broader sense, this quote has become a catchphrase and is often interpreted as the idea that beauty in itself can change the world for the better.

The question arises as to what is meant by the term "beauty". There are many meanings. It includes external beauty, i.e. the symmetry of nature, the order of all processes, the harmony of the outside world and the beauty of all living things, including the human body. But there is also the inner beauty of man, i.e. goodness, love, compassion, self-sacrifice and much more. It is also God himself, who saves the world. The one does not contradict the other.

In today's world of political and military conflicts, this quote is more relevant than ever, because only love and harmony can save the world, keep it in balance, only understanding and compassion for one another can create new paths, new connections. Destroying is easy, creating is difficult.
