The Landeszentrale für politische Bildung and the Kulturhaus Süderelbe present the award-winning graphic novel "Ahmadjan und der Wiedehopf" by Maren Amini.

The exhibition invites visitors to visually discover this multi-layered story of migration, identity and the search for happiness. The exhibition is accompanied by a reading and a workshop.

Inspired by her father's life story, the graphic novel focuses on Ahmadjan, who comes to Hamburg from Afghanistan in 1972 to become an artist. He embarks on an eventful journey between places, times and inner worlds. Amini tells his story along the lines of the famous story The Conference of the Birds by Fariduddin Attar. Like Attar, Ahmadjan also crosses seven valleys, each of which requires insight and introspection.

The journey leads through the hippie era in Afghanistan, the music and art scene of the 1970s in Kabul and Hamburg and to resistance fighters in the Hindu Kush, at a time between awakening, the peace movement and the beginning of a long war.
