Ahnungen - the Hamburg cultural scene around 1933, lecture and discussion evening
We look back at the early 1930s in Hamburg: a time of intense political conflict and at the same time astonishing artistic productivity. Many artists developed a visual language that soon became a threat to their own existence. Initial suspicions gradually turned into threats - a socially critical art scene was suppressed by a cultural policy with a different orientation.
Our program: Introductory short lecture by Dr. Pablo Schneider. Followed by a discussion with Dr. Alina Just (Research Centre for Contemporary History in Hamburg, project "History of the HfBK from 1928 to 1955") and Gisela Ewe (Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial, project "The Hamburg Cultural Landscape under National Socialism").
The lecture evening is part of the exhibition "Im Abgrund. Terror, Violence and the Arts in Germany 1930 to after 2000", curated by Dr. Maike Bruhns and Dr. Pablo Schneider
