"I wanted to scream. And I complied ..." How do you live under occupation, with checkpoints, exclusion zones and the loss of privacy in your own home? German-Palestinian journalist Alena Jabarine has known this reality since her childhood, most recently in Ramallah in 2020-2022 - with children from the refugee camp on her doorstep and Israeli settlements outside the window. Despite all the hardships, she experiences closeness, joie de vivre, cohesion and resilience there. She talks to friends, relatives, ex-soldiers, journalists and activists, listens, asks questions, scrutinizes. After October 7, 2023, when it became almost impossible to publicly express Palestinian perspectives in Germany, she began to write. The Last Sky is her personal picture of Palestine - beyond clichés and propaganda.
