A North German story - a bestseller made for the theater. Two women with eventful lives, both on the run and in search of a home, a family.
Altes Land, 1945: Vera Eckhoff flees East Prussia on foot with her mother as a little girl. They are stranded on a farm in the Altes Land, where they feel very unwelcome. Between apple and cherry trees, in a harsh climate and surrounded by suspicious villagers, mother and daughter work hard on the old farm south of the Elbe. When her mother eventually leaves her for a better life in Hamburg, Vera is left alone in her new home, which will always remain a stranger to her. After many years, two people looking for a new home suddenly appear at the door of the old thatched-roof house: Vera's niece Anne and her young son Leon, who want to leave life in Hamburg-Ottensen behind them.
Dörte Hansen's novel has won several awards and was the bestseller of 2015. The North German story is both touching and humorous.
The play is performed in High German.
