Amble Skuse – All Who Are Weary and Heavy Laden

In the organizer's words:

A radio play about an invisible weight: the burden projected onto us by society. We are stopped by visible and invisible barriers, endless verification requirements and the constant fear of isolation and judgment - until we are told that we ourselves are the burden. World premiere of an acoustic exploration of the stigma of disability and the question: Who is carrying the burden?

"All Who Are Weary and Heavy Laden, I Will Give You Rest" (Fixed Media, ca. 60min.)

This 8-channel audio and video work collaboratively explores themes of exhaustion, interdependence and mental health. The artists Boško Begović and Amble Skuse enter into a special dialog: Boško's movements generate data that influence the sound and image on Amble's soundscape - creating a work that only works through their interplay.

The narrative explores the relationship between wellbeing and the pressures of modern life, while also addressing images of masculinity and the impact of physical limitations. The work asks how extra weight can shake up existing structures and makes it clear that balance does not stand in the way of disability - rather, it is an expression of mutual care and connection.

The work invites the audience to reflect on societal structures that either support or hinder people - and how we perceive strength and resilience in the midst of such challenges.

This work was created in collaboration with Boško Begovic.

Boško is an MMA martial artist, conceptual artist and author. Together we explored how the movements of different martial arts can be represented through sound. In this video, Boško senses where the sound is and enters into a sparring dialog with it - just as he would with a real partner.

Boško is co-founder of the non-profit organization Center424, Artist in Residence in Belgrade and Martial Artist in Residence. He holds 4th Dan in Aikido (Aikikai Hombu Dojo), 4th Dan in Judo and 5th Dan in Tatami Ryu Aiki Jutsu. He has been writing since 1995 - increasingly in English in recent years.
