Anatomie der Fragilität – Körperbilder in Kunst und Wissenschaft

In the organizer's words:

In cooperation with the Goethe University Frankfurt, the Justus Liebig University Giessen, the University of Bologna and the Hans and Benedikt Hipp Collection and with the participation of the artists Chiara Enzo, Yein Lee, Marshmallow Laser Feast, Agnes Questionmark and Alternative Limb Project

The way in which we view, examine, perceive and represent bodies is subject to constant change. Art and science have always worked together to understand the body through visual thinking, each producing new images and interpretations in different eras: from the idealized conception of the body in archaic Greek art, to the religious depictions of votive offerings, to scientific anatomical figures from the 17th century onwards. These are contrasted with contemporary works of art that express a modern sense of corporeality through new forms.

The exhibition, curated by the Frankfurter Kunstverein, is being created in collaboration with the Goethe University Frankfurt - represented by the Moulage Collection of the Clinic for Dermatology, Venereology and Allergology and the Collection of Antiquities at the Institute for Archaeological Sciences -, the University of Bologna, Ludwig Stieda's collection of anatomical votives from the Justus Liebig University Giessen's Collection of Antiquities and the private collection of Hans and Benedikt Hipp. "Anatomy of Fragility" invites visitors on a journey through objects from human history and contemporary works of art.

The exhibition takes place under the patronage of the Italian Consulate General in Frankfurt am Main.
