Are We Still Friends? - The State of US Politics and Transatlantic Relations

Almost a year has passed since Donald Trump was re-elected President of the United States. The speed and extent of the changes brought about by the Trump administration since then are immense. We in Europe are also feeling the consequences: our relationship with the USA is being put to the test and many political issues are characterized by tensions. Time to ask: Are we still friends? And if so, how good is this friendship?

Two former members of the US Congress discuss in Düsseldorf City Hall.

The two former US Congressmen Michael Capuano (Democrat from Massachusetts, 1999 - 2019) and Fred Upton (Republican from Michigan, 1987-2023) report first-hand from political Washington. Kerstin Kohlenberg, award-winning journalist and former USA correspondent for DIE ZEIT, will moderate the evening. Questions from the audience will be answered after the talk.

The Townhall Discussion in Düsseldorf is an event organized by Amerika Haus NRW e. V. and the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress in cooperation with the state capital Düsseldorf and Europe Direct Düsseldorf. It is supported by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The event will be held in English, but questions can also be asked in German. Lord Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller will open the event with a welcoming address. The event is free of charge.
