On a crucial night, the two outsiders Michael and Laura meet. Their mutual friend Mathé has died, and this loss has changed them. Laura has withdrawn even more into herself and Michael is planning his escape: He will turn sixteen at midnight, when he wants to leave the city and throw off the burden of the past. He roams around, spraying graffiti messages - a silent, rebellious memento of Mathé. Laura catches him in the act. Michael reluctantly allows her to accompany him. The two are strangers to each other, but are connected by the memory of Mathé and their loneliness. Between mockery, rejection and timid closeness, they discover a freedom that arises from the courage to see themselves and their counterparts differently.
