Emmanuel Mario returns to Karaoke Kalk with his third album under his Astrobal moniker for the Berlin-based imprint. "L'uomo e la natura" ("Man and Nature") sees the prolific drummer and producer, who has worked with artists such as Laetitia Sadier and label mate Pink Shabab, take a different musical route than before. The French electronic music composer pays homage to the spirit of library music while also making concessions to different strains of pop and even classical music. With only two of the ten songs putting words to the music, "L'uomo e la natura" is a masterful exercise in the evocation of atmospheres: expressing much while saying very little outright-show, don't tell.
French multidisciplinary artist Nina Savary is a renowned performer; a singer, dancer and actress. The best advice one could give a happy wanderer to pinpoint her universe on a map would be to proceed by elimination. Look for where she is not rather than where she actually is; for her place of residency is in the exact opposite direction of the current state of emergency. And omitting to indulge in a tired eulogy for idleness, sloth or rest, we can be sure that the French singer diligently steers clear from the pangs of chaos. Her last record speaks to people uprooted within their homeland, to fans of orchestral pop and library music, to Lewis Caroll aficionados and others keen on surreal cinematic atmospheres.
Marcus Grassl (Aloa Input) and Chris Hofbauer (Micro Circus) worked together for the first time on musical sketches in 2018. The first finished songs were created along with the singer and leader of the Female Indie Choir "The Witches of Westend," Pola Dobler. Musically, Su Yono moves somewhere between misty-experimental-pop, indie, and avant-folk. Moments of deception break through a backdrop of guitars, bass, keys, synths, and pop elements that come together to create their own kind of sonic wall.
