Flight, arrival and social change - perspectives for refugees in the German host society. Reading and discussion.
This book presentation explores the past ten years of arrivals of refugees in Germany and how society and politics deal with integration challenges.
Reading in German. Birgit Glorius is professor for human geography at Chemnitz Technical University.
Ten years after the "Long Summer of Migration", flight and the reception of refugees are still ongoing political issues in Germany. Based on interviews with refugees and members of the host society, Birgit Glorius traces the process of arriving and starting a new life in Germany. She focuses in particular on the regional differences between cities and regions in Germany in terms of openness, curiosity, sympathy or resistance towards refugees. The results offer explanations for different integration processes and show how migration and integration contribute to the transformation of local societies. Birgit Glorius is Professor of Human Geography at Chemnitz University of Technology
