Yes, is it Christmas today? You know how it is when Christmas suddenly comes as a complete surprise? But you still don't have a present, Christmas cards, etc. Yet last year you vowed to start on time and prepare everything in peace. And now? You have to do everything quickly, at the last minute. And yet, for many people at least, Christmas is something positive. How much more difficult is it to study in time for the next important exam or to get to work on a term paper on time? We like to put off such tasks until the day we die.

In very severe cases, experts refer to this as "procrastination" (Latin procrastinare "to put off"; a compound of pro "for" and crastinum "tomorrow"), also known as "extreme procrastination". This is a pathological disorder characterized by the unnecessary postponement of starting or interruption of tasks so that they cannot be completed or can only be completed under pressure. Procrastination can occur "in isolation" or as a sign of an illness, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

In the course of the lecture, background information, strategies and treatment options for this topic will be presented.

Dr. Matthias Frank Rudolph is a specialist in psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy.
