Exhibition of the Academy of Sciences on long-term research in Hamburg

Who are we? Where do we come from? The cultural heritage of mankind provides answers to these questions. In the Academies' Program, Germany's largest long-term research program for basic research in the humanities and social sciences, researchers dedicate themselves to special texts, languages and other surviving sources over a period of 12 to 25 years and also make them digitally accessible. The Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Hamburg is currently conducting eight long-term research projects in cooperation with the University of Hamburg and the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. Their topics range from ancient manuscripts to current issues. What they have in common: They lay the foundations for further research in the humanities, both nationally and internationally, and provide insights for the present and future. In this way, these projects secure knowledge that would otherwise be lost. The latest project "Middle Low German Grammar" is not yet represented in the exhibition.

The exhibition offers low-threshold access for all visitors: large-format exhibition panels, pictures and exhibits are combined with audio stations and hands-on activities to provide an informative and sensory introduction to the Academy's long-term research. The exhibition is translated into German Sign Language (DGS) and is therefore accessible for deaf people. It is the first exhibition on long-term research in the humanities in northern Germany. Bremen is part of the northern German catchment area of the Academy of Sciences in Hamburg.
