Ausstellungseröffnung: Stadt in Trümmern. Herbert List und die Ruinenfotografie in München

In the organizer's words:

2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. To mark the occasion, the Munich City Museum's photography collection is showing a selection of rubble photographs from the immediate post-war period. The centerpiece is a cycle of images of ruins that photographer Herbert List (1903-1975), who returned to Munich in 1945, captured on his forays through the destroyed city. List's moving portrait of the city is juxtaposed in the exhibition with other photographs taken by amateurs and professional, commissioned postcards and photo reports.

At the opening of the exhibition in the Rathausgalerie, City Councillor Dr. Florian Roth, representing the Lord Mayor, Nina Oswald, Team Leader Fine Arts, Department of Culture, Dr. Markus Speidel, Director of the Münchner Stadtmuseum, and Dr. Kathrin Schönegg, Head of the Photography Collection of the Münchner Stadtmuseum, will speak.

The speeches will be translated into German sign language.

Free admission to the exhibition. The Kunstraum is barrier-free (registration via the Rathauspforte at the Fischbrunnen).
