When baroque sonority meets modern improvisation, the result is a fascinating musical dialog. Under the motto "Baroque Meets Jazz", the Frank Meiller Quartet from Hamburg combines melodic jazz with the ornate structures of the Baroque.
Frank Meiller (saxophone) and his quartet take the audience on a journey through worlds of sound full of contrasts and surprising harmonies. Baroque themes by Bach, Handel and Purcell are reinterpreted, rhythmically broken up and interwoven with jazzy improvisations.
The program is tailored to the Australian soprano Carly Power, whose expressive voice makes the bridge between the centuries audible. The renowned lutenist Fernando Olivas enriches the ensemble as a guest and lends the program an authentic timbre with his historical instrument - sometimes delicate and filigree, sometimes rhythmically pointed.
"Baroque meets jazz" shows how timeless music can be - when tradition and innovation merge. An evening full of energy, emotion and musical sophistication that will delight lovers of both genres.
