Over 1000 photographs by Jean Molitor show the global architectural modernity of the Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the bunker level of the impressive mixing plant, the presentation combines architectural history, cultural heritage and interactive mediation formats to create an international exhibition experience.
Since 2009, Berlin-based photographer Jean Molitor has been documenting global architectural modernism on all continents - from NRW to Europe, America and India to Asmara in Eritrea. His precise visual language combines documentary accuracy with artistic aspirations and makes endangered buildings visible. Since 2016, Jean Molitor's work has been accompanied by Dr. Kaija Voss; the architectural historian has also taken over the scientific support for the presentation at Zollverein.
Jean Molitor, born in Berlin in 1960, studied artistic photography at the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts under Arno Fischer. He has been a freelance photographer for magazines, newspapers and industry since 1994. In 2009, he launched his bau1haus project, for which he traveled through Africa, North and South America, Europe and the Middle East.
Kaija Voss, born in Berlin in 1965, studied architecture in Weimar, obtained her doctorate in Hanover in 1998 and subsequently worked at the Technical University of Dresden, for the Süddeutsche Zeitung and at the AMD Akademie Mode & Design at the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences in Munich, among others. She has published numerous articles on building and art history and wrote the texts for the publications of Jean Molitor's bau1haus project, among others.
