Bavarian Christmas Concert

Christmas music with a Bavarian Christmas story - the Bavarian Christmas Cantata by Andreas Begert

Experience a Bavarian Christmas concert evening full of classical music in one of Munich's most beautiful concert churches: the Allerheiligenhofkirche of the Residenz. Seven top-class classical musicians will take you on a magical journey through the Bavarian musical "winter wonderland": warm, traditional and heartfelt, but also joyful and with lots of positive energy.

Bavarian dances such as the Zwiefache and the polka are playfully combined with classical music and many beautiful catchy tunes by composer Andreas Begert. The thoroughbred musician from Dorfen is guided entirely by his feelings, writing his music intuitively, from his gut. Emotional, sometimes resting in himself, soulful, quiet, then again rousing with Bavarian joy. He is less interested in rules. Traditions do, very much so. The Bavarian dialect in combination with the biblical Christmas story sounds pleasant and familiar to Begert's musical composition.

Christmassy, joyful, thoughtful, but also with Bavarian humor, a narrator combines the individual elements to create a unique Bavarian synthesis of the arts: a Christmas story in Bavarian, set to classical music; emotional, with flair and humor.

The composer Andreas Begert:

Andreas Begert has already made a name for himself with several classical works, which he has brought to the stage together with top-class soloists* from the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra or the Bavarian State Opera and with orchestras such as the Munich Symphony Orchestra.

After studying music at school, he began playing chamber music and made his debut in the Blackbox of the former Gasteig in 2018. This was followed in July 2019 by his first major composition for orchestra and choir, a Requiem, performed by Concerto München and the Heinrich Schütz Ensemble in the Carl Orff Hall. With his "Bavarian Oratorio", which he financed via crowdfunding and which was downright acclaimed by the audience after its premiere in the Herkulessaal with the Munich Symphony Orchestra in 2022, he has since also performed on national stages, including in the Basilica of Ottobeuren in April 2023. In 2024, Begert's Bavarian Symphony was performed by the Munich Symphony Orchestra in the Herkulessaal of the Munich Residence, and his 1st Violin Concerto was premiered by star violinist Rebekka Hartmann. Begert's works are performed annually at the Dorfen Festival, which was founded in honor of his compositions.
