Belgien: Sprachgemeinschaften und Comickultur

Belgium is a country of multilingualism - and of comics. In her lecture, Dr. Saskia Vandenbussche (University of Paderborn) will shed light on the three Belgian language communities, their historical tensions and how they live together today. Particular attention will be paid to the role of comic culture as a connecting element between Flanders and Wallonia.

The speaker vividly demonstrates how French- and Dutch-language comics reflect social realities - and why the "ninth art" plays an important role in Belgium not only on paper, but also as street art, monuments or learning material.
