A crime comedy by Robert Thomas.
In his will, the deceased Duke Valorin-Grandterre has designated his son Jacques as his main heir, but with the addition that the millions will be distributed among his numerous illegitimate descendants should Jacques die single and childless.
Now the rumor of Jacques' imminent marriage and forthcoming offspring is doing the rounds. Jacque suddenly finds himself in grave danger. He receives threatening letters and anonymous phone calls, the brakes on his car are tampered with and nightly attacks are made on him.
Even calling in an old acquaintance, who is now a newly qualified police inspector, cannot save him from the deadly arrow.
News of his death spreads like wildfire, and the other heirs to the millions arrive at the country estate that very night. From now on, there is discussion and intrigue. Everyone seems to have a motive, everyone suspects the others of having committed the murder. Even the dead man's notary has to provide an alibi when it emerges that he too is one of the duke's extramarital missteps.
A murder spectacle begins.
