Best of NRW - Mona Kuribayashi

In the organizer's words:

Best of NRW - Mona Kuribayashi

The young pianist Mona Kuribayashi, who was born in Tokyo in 2002, has already won numerous national and international awards. She is currently studying at the Cologne University of Music and Dance in Aachen. Mona Kuribayashi has been a scholarship holder of Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Köln e.V. since 2023.

The program includes piano literature ranging from impressionistic sound painting to romantic sounds and original arrangements of French chansons.

She opens with Claude Debussy's three-part piano cycle Estampes, which is an impressionistic journey to Indonesia, Spain and France. This is followed by two character pieces from Robert Schumann's Novelletten, op. 21, booklet 1, followed by Johannes Brahms' world of sound in the form of Drei Intermezzi, op. 117.

After the interval, the romantic journey takes us to Poland with works by Frédéric Chopin. The Nocturne, op. 55, no. 2 and the Rondo à la mazur, op. 5, which contains elements of the Polish folk dance mazurka, can be heard. Finally, Mona Kuribayashi brings French esprit to the stage with pieces from Alexis Weissenberg's arrangements of songs by Charles Trenet.

A cooperation with "Best of NRW", the Werner Richard-Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation, the Eibach Foundation and the LWL Cultural Department.
