Everything comes together at the Best of Poetry Slam: big emotions in small moments, concentrated rage meets gentle poetry, rattling storytelling gags collide with retarding moments, punchlines chew through the iamb and in the end it focuses on the essentials: A sound echoes through the room, forms itself into a word, grows into a sentence and is heard, understood, comprehended, action, reaction, applause, 10 points.
Sold out almost every time for over ten years, the Best of Poetry Slam at the Ernst Deutsch Theater is at the forefront of the German spoken word scene. This is where they meet: professional slammers, legends, promising newcomers, big names, insider tips or in short: the best of the best! They all write, perform, bawl, whisper, exaggerate and play for victory and we explicitly give them more time than in the regular competition so that they can fully savor their oeuvre, present a cross-section of their work, only to convince the tough jury from the audience in the end. As with the regular poetry slam, the rules of this art also apply here - self-written, no singing, just you and a microphone.
To elevate this firework display of literary entertainment to the Olympus of nightlife, Hamburg's most charming emcee David Friedrich will guide you through the evening and welcome four of the German-speaking world's most kick-ass slam poets. Supplemented by a musical special guest, you will be left with memories of a show, emotions and lyrics, laughter and tears and the question of when you will be there next.
