Gottlieb Biedermann is worried about the arsons reported in the newspapers. Nevertheless, he lets two strangers into his house. One morning, however, he discovers that his guests have been hoarding barrels of petrol, fuses and all sorts of arson equipment in his attic. Nevertheless, Biedermann invites the two to dinner.

Precisely because the danger is so obvious and the end is foreseeable, the action unfolds in a virtuoso and tragicomic manner - right up to the bitter end. Max Frisch's play is a powerful commentary on looking the other way in the face of extreme ideologies and threats.
