The BIG BANDits, the jazz orchestra of the University of Duisburg-Essen under the direction of Nils Powilleit, invites you to a Christmas jazz concert. Get into the Christmas spirit with jazzy, soulful and funky tunes.

The jazz orchestra of the University of Duisburg-Essen was founded in 1991 as an initiative of a few dedicated students. Since 1993, saxophonist and music teacher Nils Powilleit has led the band, which brings together around 20 ambitious amateur musicians. The music swings, rocks and grooves, ranging from the repertoire of the great swing orchestras of Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Glenn Miller to more recent arrangements by Thad Jones, Bob Mintzer and Peter Herbolzheimer and pieces by young arrangers.
