Günter Rückert is a painter, caricaturist, satirist, author and director of independent theater projects, in short: a hasard of cabaret. His book tells stories, absurd, comic and dramatic from a lost world, from the world of a coal-mining settlement in the 50s and 60s. He tells of growing up and muddling through between allotment gardens, slag heaps and cinder yards.

Adenauer went to Moscow, a wall was built in Berlin, Borussia Dortmund became German champions twice in a row and we kids smoked our first cigarettes in the chicken coop. We threw ourselves off the railroad bridge into the canal as ass bombs, fought with the gangs of kids from the neighboring streets and dreamed of forming a band. We set fire to the railroad embankment, breathed soot, picked dandelions for the rabbits, formed blood brotherhoods at the barbed wire and shoveled coal into the cellar.

We weren't poor, but we had nothing.

None of this has anything to do with today's hometown fuss and mining romanticism.

The book premiere will be complemented by an exhibition of his current paintings. Satirical works that have their roots in this very time and its madness, with a box of crayons and a few scraps of wallpaper.

The reading will be accompanied musically by the band Les Schamöörs.
