BLUFF
Presented as part of the Jazz Moves Hamburg club festival
"BLUFF IS A PART OF OUR FUTURE, EVEN NOW" - said none other than Nils Landgren about three years ago. At that time, the young quartet had already attracted prominent attention in its northern German surroundings with Ankerplatz Hamburg. With their own compositions and strong influence from role models on the other side of the Atlantic, BLUFF had forged a "signature sound" with a remarkable dynamic range - from rubato ballads à la Keith Jarrett to Immanuel Wilkins-like pieces and all the nuances in between.
The four musicians understand each other blindly and literally play with each other, challenge each other, catch each other and thus radiate a joy of playing that is transferred to the audience.
In six years of band history, BLUFF has already toured throughout Germany several times, with highlights at the renowned ELBJAZZ and JazzBaltica festivals. They have also made their first trips to Austria and Switzerland. Following the release of its debut album Sleight of Hand on BERTHOLD records in early 2023, the quartet, now with one foot in Berlin, is now turning a new page. The new compositions are melodic and contoured, creating musical landscapes on which the band moves as if on skis. This creates completely new paths and twists in the improvisational moments.
A great band that, somewhere between really abstract melodies and harmonies, still has an absolute pop appeal and simply sounds insanely good. - LAMBERT
