She even made it into the Guinness Book of Records as the "most successful serial killer of all time". Numerous myths and legends surround her person, and novels and films are based on her life. Inspired by her dark image, she was portrayed as a vampire, witch or sadist who was prepared to do anything to preserve her beauty. The historical Elisabeth Báthory was born in 1560 and was one of the richest and most powerful noblemen in Hungary. While her husband Franz Nádasdy fought in the war against the Ottomans, Elisabeth managed the family's extensive lands and estates. Even after her husband's death, she confidently refused to allow her husband to dispute the estates, which led to resentment among other powerful people. Rumors about the numerous disappearances of young maids were stirred up and eventually led to a trial. Elisabeth was never allowed to testify at this trial herself. In her monologue version, Sandra Maria Huimann approaches the historical Elisabeth and contrasts her with the one constructed by stories. Supported by haunting and menacing music, the play dissects the ambivalence between the expectations placed on the appearance and position of women and their demonization when they try to ruthlessly live up to expectations. Elisabeth Báthory was no innocent, but others made the "Blood Countess" out of her.
