Gröpelingen - Bremen's arrival district, one of many in Germany.
An apartment building and many stories from Bulgaria, Turkey, Bremen and other places. Poetic stories about expectations and failure, family dramas and the search for the future, about pride and missing words. They are held together by Nadezda, whose name means hope. She makes people speak. Floor by floor, apartment by apartment, room by room, the fates of the unheard are strung together. Anecdotes, wisdom about life abroad, Bulgarian songs and conversations create a panorama of a society on the margins. This book is an attempt at rapprochement.
The author and lyricist Donka Dimova is herself an immigrant from Bulgaria, lives in Bremen and has gathered a wide range of impressions over the past few years as an educational and social counselor, which have flowed into the texts. The characters are based on real people who were willing to reveal their lives and circumstances.
