The caricature of the caricature

Albert Einstein, probably the greatest philosopher of physics in the history of mankind, has often been portrayed in a humorous context. But no one has been able to illustrate his intellectual genius like Brian Bagnall. The painter, draughtsman and cartoonist's typical play with the caricature of the caricature can also be seen in Salvador Dalí's most significant creation, the softly melting pocket watch. His works can be viewed as part of an exhibition in the Baroque Hall.

Satirical drawing and painting

At the suggestion of fellow artist Yongbo Zhao, around 50 works will be shown in the Baroque Hall after Bagnall's death in 2020. "The two of us could have been a fantastic duo of satirical drawing and painting," enthused Yongbo during his visit to the Bagnall Studios. He said this with a laugh and regret at the same time, because unfortunately the two never met.

In search of meaning

"The older I get, the more pointless many things seem to me. Or do I just stop looking for meaning... where there seems to be none? However, meaninglessness makes sense because you have let go of meaning. Often the meaning lies in that which makes no sense. So it makes sense not to look for meaning in meaning. It becomes non-sense, so to speak." Brian Bagnall
