30 publishers, speed dating with the literary scene; readings & exchange

On December 5 and 6, the atrium of the Hamburg State and University Library will be transformed into a lively marketplace for independent literature for the third time. Around 30 Hamburg publishers and selected guest publishers from German-speaking countries will be presenting their programs, inviting visitors to discuss books, browse and buy. The book market is accompanied by readings, presentations and two special highlights: speed dating with the Hamburg literary scene and the Poetomat, who writes individual live poems on request.

From prose to poetry, from fiction to non-fiction, from graphic novels to children's books - the whole range of good, clever, colorful books from independent publishers can be discovered.

Supported by the Hamburg Ministry of Culture and Media, the Börsenverein Nord, the State and University Library and Szene Hamburg, the independent publishers' book market is a cultural partner of NDR Kultur.

Speed dating with Hamburg's literary scene on Friday evening

To celebrate independent publishing, a big speed dating gala with Hamburg's literary scene will take place during the book market on Friday evening at 7pm. Hamburg authors, people from the media and the book trade will each present their favorite book from Hamburg's indie publishers in five minutes. Tuana Atay, Timo Blunck, Isabel Bogdan, Simone Buchholz, Jan Ehlert, Nefeli Kavouras, Can Mayaoglu, Torsten Meinicke, Oskar Piegsa, Zina Rupp, Anne Sauer, Katrin Seddig and Frank Spilker will be taking part. Poetomat: Word in - poem out

A special experience awaits visitors on Saturday: the Poetomat will be making a stop in the atrium of the Stabi. The Hamburg live poetry project works like a request concert for poetry - anyone who wants to can submit a word and real poets will compose an individual, handwritten poem on the spot, which the machine will then spit out. The unique piece of poetry can be taken home with you.

In addition, there will be readings, lectures and book presentations by the participating publishers on Saturday from 11.30 am.

Free admission, drinks and food will be provided.
