Journalist and award-winning filmmaker Stephan Lamby wanted to find out why so many people from the middle class, even relatives and friends, are becoming radicalized. When he learned that his American cousin had been present at the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, he set off on a long journey. It took him first to the USA, then to Argentina, finally to Italy and, of course, through Germany, but also deep into the history of his own family. Many of his conversations were painful, some were conciliatory. Stephan Lamby's very personal book "Nevertheless, we talk to each other" sheds light on the dark sides of Western democracies. A good hundred years after the rise of historical fascism and eighty years after its end, he examines the extent to which the term "fascism" is suitable for the current political debate. On his travels, Stephan Lamby has met both enemies of democracy and people who stand in the way of the enemies of democracy.

Stephan Lamby is a documentary filmmaker and author. For many years, he has been portraying German and international politics in his ARD documentaries, including "Die Vertrauensfrage", "Ernstfall" and "Nervöse Republik". He has received numerous awards for his films and books, including the German Television Prize, the Hanns Joachim Friedrichs Prize, the Golden Camera and Journalist of the Year.
