"Funk never dies. Funk is eternal. It just changes from time to time," the legendary drummer Questlove once said. And this is exactly the case for the band Butter Funk Family from Los Angeles. They combine the energy of 70s funk with a killer modern sound. On February 23, they will transform the Schlachthof into a funk fortress.

The Butter Funk Family was founded in 2019, led by two-time Grammy winner and musical jack-of-all-trades Printz Board. His mission is clear: "When we play, our mission is always to spread love. I want people to go home sweaty, happy and funky." This sums up the essence of the music and his band: tight drums and driving bass lines, staccato spiky guitars, horns that linger in your head with irresistible melodies and lyrics that whip funk commandments á la James Brown through the room and convey clear messages with few words. This band knows how to grab an audience.

In addition to entertainment, Printz Board also pursues an educational mission. Many kids today, he says, no longer know where their cool hip-hop samples actually come from. With a rolling funk band, he also wants to remind people of legends such as Sly & The Family Stone, Parliament-Funkadelic or Earth, Wind & Fire. In addition to their own songs, they also deliberately sprinkle covers into their set. In 2025, the Butter Funk Family released a new album, "Facts", after "Downtown" from 2023. Tracks such as the rushing instrumental "Kootsy Mootsy" or the laid-back head-nodder "Love Power" are guaranteed to fulfill the band's promise. A Butter Funk Family concert is great fun and Printz Board clearly emphasizes: "Kids, intellectuals and old people - everyone can love it. This project is for 8 to 80-year-olds because it's so much fun."
