Calaveritas Literarias, literally translated as "Literary Skulls", are short, humorous poems in which death plays a central role, often with a satirical and critical tone. Created in the 19th century, these compositions are used in Mexico as part of the Day of the Dead celebrations, where death is portrayed in a playful and festive way. Through rhymed verses, "Literary Skulls" reflect Mexican cultural identity and allow us to reflect on life and death with wit and humor.

The literary calaveritas workshop "The nameless mystery: A thousand and one names of death" aims to bring the literary tradition of "calaveritas" closer to a Latin American-German audience and offers source information, examples and tools for creation in this multicultural setting.
