A dance concert by Hannah Shakti Bühler and Charlotte Simon

In her work, Frankfurt-based choreographer and dance professor Hannah Shakti Bühler invites us to explore collective dance phenomena as a medium of liberation, ecstasy and the disciplining of bodies. In a time travel through historical outbreaks of uncontrolled and contagious dance plagues - such as the medieval dance manias, the southern Italian tarantismo rituals and the waltz rage - dance and movement are experienced and celebrated as a resource in times of crisis! The performance transforms into a hosted dance floor (with live music by Charlotte Simon) and takes the form of a ritual between empowerment, (self-)care and protest.

Hannah Shakti Bühler is an Italian-German dancer, choreographer and, since 2018, professor of contemporary dance at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main. Her choreographic work as a freelance artist includes artistic documentation practices, interdisciplinary performances and participatory work. She completed her Bachelor's degree at Laban Trinity College in London and a Master's degree in Contemporary Dance Education in Frankfurt. She has worked as a dancer and choreographic assistant with Ivan Perez, Kristel Van Issum, Anouk Van Dijk and others. In 2015 she founded the choreographic duo Hicks&Bühler in the independent scene in Frankfurt am Main and developed the piece Der Klumpen (2018), among others. Since 2022 she has developed the piece Somatic Tratata - Rhythm, Rapture and Romance in collaboration with Simon Mayer, which they have toured nationally and internationally, and the participatory project FolkDanceParty, which was hosted as part of the exhibition Tanzwelten at the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn, as well as at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. Her latest work Choreomaniacs (2025) is currently touring nationally and internationally. Her documentary videos such as Ta-ta-taranta (2022), HoamDreh (2024) and Zuagroast/Zugereist (2025) were shown as part of the Festival of Regions (AT) and the Capital of Culture Salzkammergut 2024, among others.
