A musical evening by and with Smilla Zorn & Awesome Universe
The court record of the case of Susanna Margaretha Brandt was closed in 1772, but her tragic fate remains a mystery to this day. Her story became famous through Goethe's adaptation of his famous Gretchen character in "Faust". But does this treatment do justice to the real life story of the Frankfurt maid? What hardship was behind the crime for which she was punished with death at the Hauptwache?
As an act of self-empowerment and empowerment, the dark pop duo Smilla Zorn & Awesome Universe, consisting of ensemble member Lotte Schubert and musician Thorsten Drücker, put on a solemn and wistful club concert. With their melancholy, honest lyrics and spherical sounds, they put their finger in the wound, telling of pain, but also of the hope for happiness. Here they encounter the biography of the Frankfurt woman, whose themes have lost none of their topicality: precarious living conditions, the oppression of women in the patriarchal system, abortions and their consequences under criminal law. Using documentary means, the band develops a multi-layered evening that combines fiction with history, the personal with the universal, giving a voice to someone who was ignored throughout her life.
