Dortmund cult band on the road for over 40 years

Cheap Tequila was founded in Dortmund in 1979 by guitarist Matthias Schaaf and has been on the road in the name of the blues almost without interruption in North Rhine-Westphalia and beyond its borders ever since.

The song "Cheap Tequila" by the now sadly deceased Johnny Winter gave the band its name ... The blues of the Dortmund band, which is nevertheless praised for its musical versatility, is correspondingly rocky.

The repertoire has always consisted of a mixture of self-written material and interpretations of songs by "heroes" such as Eric Clapton, Rory Gallagher, Robben Ford and, of course, Johnny Winter. Whether their own material or interpretations by others: the Cheap Tequila sound is always unmistakable!

The band shows consistency not only in the regularity and variety of its gigs, but also in its line-up: Thomas Buchmann (blues harp) and Wolfram Schaaf (drums) have been on board since the 1980s, singer Bernd Rödiger since 2009 and bassist Rolle Ruhland since 2013.

Over the years, an LP and 5 CDs have been released, the last live CD "Like This Way" (Bellaphon, 2015) was recorded for the band's 35th anniversary with the current line-up at the renowned Blue Notez Club in Dortmund.

It's fair to say that Cheap Tequila enjoys cult status beyond Dortmund and will continue to rock until the boys are carried out of the clubs - feet first.
