How do cities become bicycle-friendly - and what can we in Essen learn from this?

Journalist and filmmaker Ingwar Perowanowitsch asked himself precisely this question and spent two months traveling through Europe by bike. His route took him to Paris, Ghent, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Groningen, Hamburg and Copenhagen - cities that are considered particularly liveable and often serve as role models when it comes to cycling.

This journey resulted in the inspiring film "Cycling Cities", which we will be showing at the Astra Theater in Essen on May 6, 2026.

Following the screening, Ingwar Perowanowitsch will be on site to discuss the future of cycling with us. Of course, there will also be an opportunity for questions from the audience.
