In the 1960s and 1970s, Bremerhaven was the hotspot of the northern German music scene alongside Hamburg. Not only because Elvis disembarked here in 1958, but above all because the GI's brought swing, jazz, soul and rock 'n roll to the clubs and bars called Chicos Place, Quincy, Atlantic-Bar, Haifischbar, Oase or Blow Up.

Today, it is above all a Bremerhaven band that picks up on all these sounds and grooves in its concerts and interprets them in a contemporary way: The Dardo Balke Ensemble has its musical roots in Django Reinhardt, the father of European jazz, and, like its role model, builds virtuoso bridges to the USA - from the jazz of Duke Ellington and Cole Porter to the soul of George Benson and Quincy Jones and its own interpretation of Elvis songs.

It all goes straight to the heart and legs. Bandleader and multi-instrumentalist Dardo Balke (including guitar, accordion and clarinet) also composes his own pieces. His sons Armando (piano) and Richie Balke (violin) as well as guitarist Jeremy Maatz are absolute virtuosos on their instruments and have been at home on stage since they caused a sensation 20 years ago as the Swing Kids. This core ensemble is supplemented by changing musicians at its concerts.

Rousing improvisations, passionate solos and an unmistakable band sound make this evening a special experience for music lovers of all genres.
