in a Lübeck version by Lukas Rietzschel

We've been hearing a lot lately about concerns about our democracy. But who shapes our democracy - not in distant Berlin and at federal level, but in our immediate surroundings? What about our local politics? Who are these people who put themselves at the service of the community and play a democratic role in shaping our cities and our community life? Who do we elect as our representatives?

Lukas Rietzschel is an award-winning author and is considered "the young voice of the East". The film adaptation of his debut novel "Mit der Faust in die Welt schlagen", which deals with the radicalization of two young people in East Germany, celebrated its premiere at this year's Berlinale. In his latest stage play, whose premiere in Görlitz in 2024 caused quite a stir, Rietzschel focuses on the candidate in a mayoral election. But who is this Samuel W.? How did he get into politics, what has shaped him and what is he running for now? Is his East German socialization the reason why he joined an anti-democratic party or would he run for office in the same way if he came from Lübeck?

In a Lübeck version, Helge Schmidt and his team, who have already produced the politically important hit production "Hafenstraße" at Theater Lübeck, this time bring an evening between election campaign drama, a musical arrangement of voices across the electorate and documentary interviews with (former) mayors from Lübeck and Wismar to the stage.
