The orphan girl Hilletje Jans grows up in the 18th century in the Netherlands - a time when children had to take on responsibility from an early age and when it was clear what roles women and men had in society. It was precisely at this time that Hilletje Jans was falsely accused of murder and spent many years in a spinning house. When she is released, she decides to sign on to a ship disguised as a boy. There she receives the respect she deserves, fights pirates and returns to her hometown as a hero. Will her secret be uncovered there?
In this multi-award-winning play, the artists from echtzeit-theater tell a touching story about equality and freedom - and about the role played by the development of gender identity during puberty.
