A film as part of the series Zeitschnitt - German and European film history as contemporary history
Topic 2025: "Tomorrow should not be the day before yesterday - East German women in film"
Maria wants to become an interpreter - but the GDR state refuses to allow her to study because her brother was sentenced as a political prisoner. When she falls in love with the judge who passed the sentence, of all people, an inner conflict between love, truth and self-determination begins. Kurt Maetzig's 1965 DEFA film was considered too controversial and was banned until 1990 - today it is a central work of critical GDR cinematic art.
Film screening with introduction by film historian Dr. Claus Löser followed by an audience discussion.
A cooperation between the LAkD and the Filmmuseum Potsdam.
