16-year-old schoolgirl Johanne (Ella Överbye) has fallen in love with her language teacher Johanna (Selome Emnetu). She is consumed with jealousy when her classmates are allowed to experience any kind of closeness with Johanna. Director Dag Johan Haugerud shows us the teacher in soft-focus images as the warmest being in the world. The pupil, in turn, writes her emotional rollercoaster ride off her chest; the voiceover recordings guide us through the film. Johannes' grandmother (Anne Marit Jacobsen), who is a poet, and her mother (Ane Dahl Torp) get to read the texts. Their empathetic concern for the girl soon turns into enthusiasm about Johannes' talent for writing. The manuscript could be offered to a publisher and turned into a successful novel! Johanne must be offended that her innermost feelings are being talked about in such a sober and practical way. Becoming a celebrated author is all well and good, but do her most secret feelings really concern anyone out there? That's why the delicate and beautiful double meaning of keeping to yourself resonates throughout the film. What you don't share is yours alone. Director Johan Dag Haugerud was awarded the Golden Bear at the Berlinale in February for this third part of his Oslo Stories trilogy.
